Soon Christmas

My sister, Madeleine, and family, Hans and Beatrice, has arrived from Sweden to celebrate Christmas with us in Gent.

We started off with a vist to the Sint-Sixtus abbey in Vleteren. The monks at the abbey are the producers of the Westvleteren Trappist beer, #1 rated beer in the world. The beer can only be bought in the abbey store or by calling to a special 'beer-phone' operated by a monk at limited times. Among all Belgian beers only six are allowed to use the name of Trappist Beer: Achel, Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle and Westvleteren.

We had a small lunch at the abbey guest house before we went to see the Christmas lights in Brugge

Well at home Hans and David tasted some amber ale, Kwak. The glass makes a Kwak sound because of its special form

During the day we went to Namur in Wallonia for the men's 2012 cyclo-cross world cup, very muddy and very funny!
