Our great Alpine road trip - Route des Alpes day 1

This day we started our journey (green) on La Route des Alpes (D902). A 684 km long route trough the French Alpes, passing over all the high passes of the Alps within France. The route starts in Menton, at the Mediterranean, and ends in Thonon-les-Bains, lake Geneva. We joined the route after Briancon and stayed the night in Bonneval-Sur-Arc.

- Lac de Serre-Poncon -

- Earth pillars of Sauze de lac. The pillars have formed from glacial drift -

Now on D902 heading for Col du Lautaret, altitude 2058 m.

- We were not alone on the road. Pro-team cyclists buses heading for Alpes d'huez and Tour de france -

Next pass was Col du Galbier, the sixth highest mountain pass, altitude 2642 m, a scary but exciting road pass.

We overnighted at a typically skihotel in Bonneval-Sur-Arc, the highest commune in France. Its considered to be one of the most beautiful villages of the region.
