After some hours driving from Gent trough Luxembourg and France we passed the Swiss boarder in the Jura mountains. The Jura mountains are a sub - alpine mountain range located north of the western Alps. The road took us to Lausanne and the beautiful Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), were the high mountain tops of Mont Blanc and Grand Combin can be seen at some points.

We left Switzerland and entered Italy by passing the tunnel of Grand St Bernard. After passing the tunnel we got some nice views of the alps and then we reached the Aosta valley. The temperature rised to 29 degrees Celcius and the hills of the Aosta were covered by vineyards.
After Aosta we took the high way passing Turin viewing the alps at a distance from the Italian side.
Instead of taking the highway all way down from Turin to Roquebrune we made a detour trough the Tunnel de Tende. The tunnel pass the Italian - French boarder.

After some driving downhill on the French serpentine roads following the Roya river we again entered Italy and Ventimiglia, and the Mediterranean sea was spotted. By the coast line we drove to our goal - Roquebrune. The first thing we did was to take a swim in the sea!
